This includes: Talking to those listed over a range of several miles, visiting locations built within the mind (I can explain this if necessary, one was meant as an escape during imprisonment and torture and the other was an afterlife garden) and knowing when those listed are using magic. The plant powers include: Bringing dead plants or plant-matter (i.e. wooden planks) to life, enhancing the power of plant-based medicines, enhancing the growth of live plants (this would also include dictating movement to a small degree and only for live plants) and causing dead plant-matter to move (i.e. hemp string could be tied and untied without him touching it). All of the plant powers carry an implicit "communication" with plants. Retained/Acquired Powers: Enhancing the growth of live plants (as explained above). He has to have spent at least two hours outdoors for this to kick in at all. The more time in the sun the better. And no, a tanning bed does not count. Present Background Occupation: Computer Science student Domain of: Venturus Education: Two years into a computer science BS, working at the college computer lab. Activities: Gaming online, hacking, karate when he thinks of it Home: Student apartment just off campus Finance: Tightish but he's a college student. That's how it is. History: Cory has been a trouble-maker since he was old enough to crawl. He was forever getting into things he really should have left alone, leading to his parents putting everything in locked cabinets or on surfaces too high and inaccessible for Cory to reach. It worked, most of the time. As he got older Cory found a more sedentary way of making trouble, fiddling with a computer as soon as he was allowed to. He's gotten into some minor trouble for hacking but nothing that would have gotten him kicked out of school. He's too careful for that. He's not a super genius with computers, he's just stubborn and clever enough to find his way around. He's in it for kicks. Cory is two years into a computer science undergrad degree and is also pissed that he has some phys. ed. requirements to finish before his senior year. Cory's not so much a team player so he's hoping he can get out of it with the karate. Past Background Occupation: Plant mage Education: Training at Winding Circle Temple with Dedicates Rosethorn and Crane (plant magic as well as academics and healing lore) Activities: Tending miniature trees (call shakkans in the Circle books), staff fighting, picking pockets Home: Winding Circle for his early training, traveling for his later training, 6 Cheeseman Street in Emelan after the age of 18. Finance: Quite well off, thanks to his trees and skills in making medicines History: Briar lived most of his early childhood on the street, having been orphaned when his mother was killed. He was taken into a street gang, the Lightnings, when he was four and taught how to pick pockets and later how to burgle houses and shops. After two prior arrests for stealing he was set to be sent to the docks for a life sentence of hard labor when he was rescued by a mage who saw that he had magic with plants. He discarded his old name (Roach) and took a new one (Briar) then traveled with the mage to Winding Circle Temple in a nearby country. Once at Winding Circle Briar met his teacher, Rosethorn, three other student mages (Daja - smith magic, Sandry - thread magic and Tris - weather magic). Briar's power was plant magic. Together he and the girls (later known to be as close as sisters to him) accomplished many impressive feats that mages their ages should not have been able to do: They survived an earthquake by combining their powers, they stopped a pirate fleet from invading the temple, they stopped a killer forest fire and they helped to discover the cure to a magic-based plague. Once Briar and the girls parted Briar and Rosethorn traveled, first finding a girl named Evvy who had stone magic and then getting trapped in the middle of a war. Briar continued to have nightmares and what amounted to post-traumatic stress disorder well after escaping with Rosethorn and Evvy and returning home. When he was eighteen Briar traveled with Sandry, Tris and Daja to visit Sandry's cousin, the Empress of Namorn. The Empress wanted all four mages to stay in Namorn as part of her court and did not appreciate it when they refused. Together the four escaped the country, making certain that the Empress would not try to get them back. Really, Briar's had a fairly full life at this point. All he wanted to do after the trip to Namorn was to settle down with his sisters, tend his garden and work on his miniature trees.
